Chandeliers and Floors

Today the electrician installed almost all the lights. The one's we have been waiting for are the chandeliers in the greatroom. We thing they look awesome! You may notice that they are painted slightly different, they have the same colors but they are opposite of each other, kind of a mirror image.

This is the "special" floor I spoke of a few days ago. These are called Flexi Tile and they are made of PVC. The have a very rubber like feel and they kind of snap together like a jigsaw puzzle, but he linking is hidden so they look like real tiles. Friends of ours have a floor like this and my wife really liked it so we decided to change it up a little and have at least one room with this. You may notice they have footprints on them, the house is still covered with sheetrock dust and it gets on everything.

Coach lights in front of the house. We really like the "onion globe" style.

Quick Update

Just a quick progress update. We now have lights in the kitchen; the electrician started his finish work.

The flooring continues in the greatroom, just a few feet to go.

Scraped boards ready to be installed.

I put up this bat house. The bat guy said that they probably won't go in there until next year but just in case I set it up(and I am not going on that roof again). The bat guy is going to finish sealing all the cracks tomorrow and start the eviction process.

Flooring Continues

Flooring continues, it is taking longer than expected but we are making progress. Part of the problem is these boards were originally upstairs in the Grange Hall and each needs to have the dirt and finish scraped from the sides to make sure they fit well, the scraping will continuing this week. Our carpenter has a previous engagement this week so he will be away at least until Friday. This is the view from the Greatroom into the kitchen.

One view of the Greatroom, three quarters of the room is done.

Another view of the Greatroom.

Saturday the plumber put the well pump in, this is the new well cap.

This week the contractors will be finishing their work. Hopefully, the furnace, super-store(hot water tank), air handler, air conditioner, all electrical(switches, plugs, lights, exhaust fans, etc. Some of the plumbing will be added this week but I think we need to put in the bathroom floors first before the toilets.

Walls and Floors

A lot has happened in the last two days. This is the what the windows are going to look like. This was the first of the windows with the panels in them; it is unpainted for now.

A full view of the front of the house, you can get an idea of what it will look like now.

The Greatroom has been completely taped.

One of the tapers after sanding for a while; a "Sugar Frosted Taper".

Not only were the walls taped, the entire interior, all the sheetrock, walls and ceilings, was primed. The first coat of paint is on.

The installation of the floor has started; the plan is that the floor installation should be complete by Sunday. This floor is the original floor that was installed in 1938, the former owner pulled it up and was stacked up for installation now. You may have remembered seeing it in earlier photos.

Looking into the kitchen from the Greatroom. As you can see, the house is very white, we will giving the house some color with the next coat of paint.

Starting to Insulate the Floor

Insulation has begun...yeah!

Under the floor, in the crawl space, the insulation they are using is Closed Cell foam. They say it is Soy based foam, I think that it might contain about 15% - 20% soy. Closed cell foam was suggested for under the floor since it is damp and you don't need much for good R-value.

This is what it looks like before the insulation is applied.

In addition to the insulation the handle was put on the front door, we really like the look and now we can actually open it.

We see what is under the tarp

We finally see what is under the tarp; some nice beams! No sign of the bats...yet. We are entertaining the thought of just leaving the large beams and go right up to the roof in the Greatroom. We have to work out how to insulate the ceiling. Stay tuned on what we decide.

A lot of progress was made today, this is the decking that was installed on the second floor today.

The work crew making good progress.

This is the view from the second floor looking to the front of the house.

The first floor is coming together; the walls will be framed out shortly.

We are ordering the windows tomorrow, we will need 22 windows, 8 per side, 4 on the front and two in the back.

Adding Sub Floor to Floor Repair

After Tony(the carpenter) fixed the floor joists he added the sub flooring you see here; this is in the back of the building.

In the front of the building the floor is just missing. This photo shows what is below the floor, just a crawl space. Remember, this was a church, not a house. The white pipe on the right goes to the septic tank, this will be hooked up in the future.

This photo was taken after the joists were replaced (sorry I did not have my camera when that was being done(note to self:always take your camera)). And if you are wondering how the septic will be hooked up with the floor being installed, Tony left off a piece of sub flooring(not in photo) and will make a trap door for access.

An additional note, the joists you see above are going to be removed as well as the studs to the left. We are going to leave the beam and enough of the studs to safely hold it up or we may add posts to do that. The beam will be for decoration and will not hold any load. This area will be part of our Greatroom.
