Plumbing

I'm finally back, I spent some more time in the hospital, better now. Also, our contractor has been busy doing some other work the last two weeks so not much carpentry work is getting done. The wiring is almost done and the plumber had been busy last week.




The plumber stubbed in some piping upstairs so we will not have to tear out any walls or ceilings when we finish the upstairs sometime in the future.

This is the bathroom connected onto the bedroom downstairs. This will be our bedroom suite until we complete the upstairs we will then move our bedroom upstairs and this will become the guest room.


Holes drilled in the joists to run the water tubing. We are going with flexible tubing, I believe it is PEX.

Electrical Stuff

We just got the new electrical service put in. This is the outside box and meter, the meter was put in a few days ago by the power company. We put in a 200 amp service, which should be enough for us.


The box inside that holds the circuit breakers. The first thing put into our utility room. Because we have to cram so much in this room, the circuit breaker box had to be put on this wall 4 feet from where the electrical wire comes into the house. Code says that we have to put a shut off outside because it is SO FAR WAY FROM WHERE IT COMES IN TO THE HOUSE. I guess they have that for a reason, safety first.

Where some of the fixtures will go, here we will have an overhead light and CO2/Smoke alarm.

The Front Door is In

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I spent five of the last six days in the hospital with complications from getting some kidney stones lasered out.

Here is the latest addition to the house...a front door.

Here it is, it is 8 feet high and 36 inches wide. We thought it would fit the feel of the building.

All Windows are In

Finally, all 22 windows have been installed. The front windows were the last to be put in and I guess they were the hardest because there were never windows in the front of the building. All the vinyl siding has been taken off the building, except for the soffit area. You can see in the triangle up top where there is boards to nail the siding to. There is a gap around that triangle, were are thinking of putting a louver in the gap and using it as attic ventilation, along with normal vents in the back of the building.

There Baaaccckkkk

The bats are back in town! We were hoping that they would find a new place to hang out but here they are. We have not seen that many two or three at a time but who knows where they might be hiding.


We have to wait until the house is sealed up to get rid of the bats. Once sealed we can install "Bat Tubes" a device that allows them to go out but not come back in.

Starting Front Windows

Work on the front windows has started. You can see here where the new window is being framed out. There was no windows in the front so studs have to be moved and new windows framed out.


All the lawn side windows have been installed. The second floor door has been removed and the hole patched.

Granite Steps

Yesterday we had these granite steps installed. We bought the granite from a quarry about a mile away. But, the problem was how do we get the get the pieces home. Fortunately we found a mason who would pick the pieces up, prepare the base, and put the pieces together.

The top piece is 3 feet by 4 feet and 7-1/2 inches thick...that's heavy. The pieces on the sides are called "cheek" pieces and they hold the top slab up. The front step is 4 feet wide and 1 feet deep, and also 7-1/2 inches high.

The steps are a bit dirty but they will look good when cleaned off.
